Currently there’s a lot of placeholder graphics, but here’s a portion of the screen featuring the most complete graphics:

Just saying, a “retro” mode with the older graphics would be entirely wonderful. :3 Especially for those of us ‘crazies’ who liked the 1st game’s sprites! Something about the simple graphics blended perfectly with the simple game. And it felt very Lufia-Ancient-Caveish with those graphics.

Well, perhaps not at release date for the game, but in the future, anyway. :D

Got to the final boss with 2 large potions left. Decided to be wise and use my wings instead of risking all I had gained on this run. I had really bad luck down the stretch…hardly any gems from lvl 60 on and when I got to the 99 shop there was only 2 large ethers…what a disappointment…lol! Should get him next run hopefully.

I think I remember limiting the number of stat gems that can appear per floor. Maybe not a hard cap, but the spawn rate drops after you’ve found a total of 10 gems on floor 72 or something. Good luck!

Ok…finished the cave on the next run. Probably could have done it the last run with the 2 large health pots as I only used one this time and probably didn’t even need to. My stats are: Str: 241, Def: 221, Int: 225, Agl: 145, HP: 1503, MP: 600. I find Intelligence to be a useless stat as I only use healing spells and it doesn’t increase your healing power. Maybe that was something you thought about addressing in EC2? Most comments I’ve seen from others said they don’t use magic spells also. Not a big deal on my part as my playing style has always been one of saving my MPs for healing anyways. Thanks again for the great game and looking forward to the sequel.

Ah well done! Yeah magic was kind of useless in the first. The sequel will improve on that by simplifying the damage formulas really. The first used percentages to calculate things, but the sequel is just going to be simply half damage, equal, or double damage based on enemy elements. There will probably be more spells in general, too.

Had to try another run…this time the same rules as last time but couldn’t buy any pots from a shop. Any pots picked up from chests were good and of course your normal magic. I of course have tons of gold since I couldn’t spend it….lol. My stats are Str: 309, Def: 296, Int: 304, Agl: 185, Hp: 1832, Mp: 840. I guess my next run will have to be no pots period.

            • Jack Lally says:

OK! Done the no pots run…just basic stats and could use magic to heal. My stats are Str: 377, Def: 363, Mag: 365, Agl: 231, Hp: 2117, Mp: 1037. Don’t know if I want to continue this….guess the only next logical run would be straight from the start with no healing….not sure if I want that torture….lol!

Haha cool, never seen the game played like that before. Hopefully the sequel will be well suited for multiple playthroughs as well.

With those stats you should definitely be able to beat it without healing. I just got a few friends hooked on the game after I remembered it for the first time since it came out and they’re trying to beat it with no armor, no items, and no magic. Definitely looking forward to the sequel.

I forgot to mention that another self-imposed rule of my Bare-Bones run is that you have to kill every mob possible. No taking the stairs to the next level if you haven’t cleaned out the floor you are on.

    • dustinaux says:

Nice, that was always a nice challenge in the Ancient Cave from Lufia II.

      • Jack Lally says:

Done a couple more runs…finished at lvl 94 and then at lvl 96. My stats are way better but I think these last few runs are gonna take some good shop luck for the right potions. The stat increases for damage and defense don’t make as much difference at these levels, especially since you have to kill every mob…lol. I keep track of each level where I take my first damage….still taking damage at level 47 from the Tortoises….can’t one-shot them yet. I’ll give my stats when I finish. Love your work!

Just looking forward to the sequal. I am currently playing the Enchanted Cave 1 as a Bare-Bones character. No armor or weapons or jewelry. You can use magic for healing and potions are allowed. I just made it to level 95 so I think it will be a few more trips till I defeat it bare-bones. Obviously an effort in grinding….no skill involved….just keep gaining more gems each run but I love the game! Thanks….good work on an excellent game….I guess maybe inspired by The Ancient Cave from Lufia II?

    • dustinaux says:

Hi, yeah that does sound interesting. Hopefully I’ll have enough rare and different items in the sequel where even multiple playthroughs are still very interesting. And yes, it’s definitely inspired by the Ancient Cave!
